After a longer illness (he caught typhus in Russia) he became Offizier zBV in NJG 1. He was the Adjudant of ace and Kdr II./ NJG 1 Martin Drewes and flew as radar operator with Major Horst Höfele. From 1974 - 1979 Dr. Walter Scheel was the fourth president (Bundespräsident) of the Federal Republic of Germany. Deceased 24/08/16 in Bad Krozingen (CKönig)
