Promoted to WO whilst as PoW. Released at Stalag 357 on 16 April 1945 PoW Statement by WO Davison: Had just completed bombing run when a/c was hit by some object. No fighters were reported. This cause a fire at the main spar and as the petrol Line had been broken it was impossible to extinguish it. The Engineer reported fire out of control so Pilot gave order to bail out. This was acknowledged by all crew except gunners. We could not get back to them owing to the fire. I went out first at 2000 feet and the a/c was flying straight and level and under perfect control. Presume that the a/c exploded in the Magdeburg area. | |||||||
