LOST - Dutch RAF/FAA Aviators Seriously Injured

Off Zwnr 3kl C.A.G. Pieters. Was hit by Flak shell fragments during an attack on an ammo storage in ForĂȘt de Lyon, France, on 9/8/1944, on board of Mitchell FR143. The aircraft had to be emergency-landed on The Channel. The four man crew managed to board a dinghy, and was rescued by a Walrus floatplane. Wounds in the foot of C.A.G. Pieters were such that the foot had to be amputated.

Onderluitenant KM Frits Overeijnder. Seriously burnt during the accident with Hudson T9356-D 'Brantas'. After reconvalescence he served with No. 511 Squadron.
