There is a rogue group of copyright infringers who have stolen a much earlier version of my data - from at least 10 years ago - and have the affrontery to publish that, along with using my name, on their poorly researched website. KilledInAction (KIA) 22 July, 1944 after a dogfight with American fighters 4 km NNW of Zilistea Romania. He managed to bail out of his Fw 190, but was shot to death while hanging in his chute. Long time wingman for RK Holder Hptm Hans Stollnberger. 500+ missions as an assault pilot. His first known victory, a Soviet Yak-9 on 30 May, 1944. Nos. 2 & 3, a P-39 and an Il-2 (m.H.) on 31 May, 1944. Nos. 4 & 5, a Yak-9 and a P-39 on 4 June, 1944. Nos 6, 7 & 8, an Il-2 and two Yak-9s on 5 June, 1944. A 9th, a P-39 on 8 June, 1944. Added: His attackers were P-38's. VDK entry indicates his remains not yet transferred to a military cemetery, but it is understood to exist, a grave at Buzau, Romania (D.Drury).

Suffered serious wounds 26 June, 1942, on the ground, during a bombing attack on the Sidi Barrani airfield by British bombers. Died of those wounds 11 September, 1942. Beckman was uninjured in a crash on 10 September, 1941 at Ossijaki due to technical trouble (Prien). One known victory, perhaps his first, an unnamed Soviet AC on 8 September, 1941 on a Free Hunt with Jurgen Harder (Prien). A P-40 on 14 December, 1941. His 7th victory was a Spitfire over Malta on 30 April, 1942. His 8th victory, a Beaufighter 10 km north northeast of Ras-el-Tir N. Africa on 15 June, 1942. His last victory, he claimed a Spitfire, but was probably a Hurricane or P-40, over Mersa Matruh on 26 June, 1942, just before being wounded later that day.

A Hurricane of RAF No. 237 Sq., piloted by F/O Miles-Johnson, SE of Gazala on 13 December, 1941. His fifth and sixth victories were P-40s, one 20km south of Ain-el-Gazala, the other 15 km east of Bir Hacheim, both on 27 May, 1942.

His first known victory, a P-40 25 km southeast of Gazala Bucht on 5 June, 1942. His 2nd victory was a B-26 10 km south of El Hamma on 30 December, 1942. His 3rd, a B-26 20 km north of Feriana on 4 January, 1943. His 4th & 5th victories were both P-38s 0n 3 February, 1943. His 6th, a Spitfire 10 km northeast Oeud Barga on 4 March, 1943. His 7th, a P-38 35 km northwest of Marettimo on 18 May, 1943. His 8th, a P-40 near Marettimo on 19 May, 1943. Alternate spelling Schmidt (OKL victories #1, 7 & 8).

KilledInAction (KIA) 7/8 October, 1943 while attacking a Stirling, EF 140, over the sea, 15 km N of Tversted, off Skagerak Denmark. The Ju 88 was seen to take hits and then caught fire, turning away, and crashed into the sea below, burning for some time. Only Mechanic OGefr Erwin Schröder survived by bailing and entering his dinghy. Gruppenkommandeur Simon and Radop Uffz Hans Vogel (born 27/05/1920 in Dresden, CK) went down with the AC (Air War over Denmark). Added: Buried at Esbjerg/Denmark (CK). WIC 1 March, 1943 when, on a non-operational flight, his right engine caught fire and he made an emergency landing on the beach area north of Blaavand Denmark. He and Mech Fw Erwin Schröder were taken to a hospital in Esbjerg for treatment. R/O Uffz Hugo Borgbömer was killed and buried in the Fovrfelt Cemetery on 4 March, 1943 (Source: Air War over Denmark). One known victory, a Stirling on 20 May, 1942. Another, a Wellington on 31 May, 1942. Two victories on 2 June, 1942; a Halifax and a Wellington. Two more victories on 9 June, 1942; a Halifax and a B-24. Another, a Blenheim on 26 June, 1942. WIA (injured) 14 March, 1943 landing accident in Wk# 5213 at Kirkenes Norway airfield after an operational flight. His R/O, Fw Gerhard Friedrich was also injured (Source: SIG Norway). Added: Fw Friedrich also flew as R/O with Hptm Hans Hermann Schmidt occasionally (F.Braun). A Stfkpt in 13/ZG-76 in the Summer of 1944, he rescued two crew members, Gross, the pilot, and Gerhard Sarodnik, R/O, when they were downed in their Bf 110. Kdr I/ZG-101 in June, 1944. Thought to be the last Commander of II/ZG-76. 300+ combat missions. One known victory, his 5th, a MiG-3 on 10 May, 1943 over the Notowki Bight. Magnus Report, 8 victories. Bowers/Lednicer, 8 victories. Residing at Gartenstr. 10c, 76744 Maximiliansau in 2005. Deceased 18 July, 2017 (C.König). Alternate spelling: Schlosstein (DK-G Awards List).

Slightly injured a 4th time, 27 November, 1944, in Bf 1009K-4 Werk # 330372 "White 21" during aerial combat with a P-51 at Bad Iburg. Operation Bodenplatte pilot. Two victories in JG-26. His 1st western victory, a "4 mot" victory, a B-17 42-30274 of 95BG, 335BS at Kasterlee, near Eindhoven, Holland on 17 August, 1943, in 7 Staffel. Note: Co DeSwart puts the location at Mol-Dessel Belgium. His 2nd "4 mot" victory, while in 9 Staffel, a B-17F # 42-3439 of 96BG, 413BS on 20 October, 1943, 3 km southest of Utrecht. It was flown by 2/Lt Charles F. Geyer and crashed in the village of De Bilt. Navigator 2/Lt Wm.J.Doherty and TG S/Sgt Frank Killarney evaded capture, after bailing from their crippled AC, with the help of Dutchman Richard van Nunen, at the risk of his own life, by German soldiers already out looking for the two Americans. In 9 Staffel, he was KilledInAction (KIA) 21 January, 1944 near Chivres-en-Lannois France, NE of Laon, in his G-6 in aerial combat with a P-47 of the 353rd FG, flown by Ace, Walter C. Beckham. A P-47 NW of Paris on 13 May, 1944. A Typhoon on D-Day at Beaumont le Roger. A P-47 S of Pacy-sur-Eure on 12 June, 1944. A P-47 at Coutances on 22 June, 1944. A P-47 E of Paris on 27 August, 1944. Channel pilot. His 1st victory, a Spitfire N of Hythe, 5 July, 1940. 20 victories in Russia. His first Soviet victories being three SB-2s on 22 June, 1941. Over 500 combat missions. Flew combat missions for five years. Wounded seriously several times, once on 8 September, 1941 during Operation Barbarossa; again on 1 June, 1943, in Werk# 16391. On 1 June, 1943, he was mistaken by Wilhelm Steinmann, as a Spitfire, and shot down. For his punishment, Steinmann was sent to Romania. He bore the marks of his valor, said Johannes Steinhoff. "He had a piece of plastic in his skull, and a face whose two halves no longer quite matched". This, a result of a crash in 171559 after combat with "4 mots". So disgusted with the Luftwaffe High Command, he renounced his RK, but continued to oppose the Allied bombing raids up to the very end. Deceased 10/31/1961.

Paratrooper drop over Norway. His 1st RO & Gunner, for three years, were Ofw Georg Petz & Fw Handke (Both wounded 21 July, 1944), as was Drewes, all bailing safely from "G9 + MD" (see below note). Seven of the known victories were bombers by Day. One known victory, A Spitfire at Map Quadrant 33.2 on 29 August, 1941. His 10th, a B-24 100 km N of Nordeney on 5 January, 1944. Another was a B-17 of the 306BG, 369BS on 11 January, 1944. His R/O this date was Uffz. Handke. 43 Night victories. 235 combat missions. His Bf 110G-4 Werk # 720410 "G9 + MD" crashed on Loomsweg in Reutum Holland (gem. Tubbergen) on 20/21 July, 1944, as a result of Lancaster return fire. His AC sported the Sharks Teeth. He was the last Kdr of III/NJG-1, from March, 1944 to the end. Survived the war.

He assed away on the 13th of October 2013. In February 1947, Drewes was released from captivity. He then left Germany, travelling to Italy. In Genua, he took the ship, North King, to Brazil, arriving in Rio de Janeiro on the 20th of August 1949. From 1950 to 1951, he worked as a pilot and aerial photographer. There he built a career as an entrepreneur and married Dulce Hurpia, a Brazilian woman, who gave him a son, Klaus Drewes, a lawyer in Brazil. The long marriage ended only in 2010 by the death of his wife. He returned at least once each year on visits to Germany. He died on the 13th of October 2013 in Blumenau, southern Brazil, of natural causes. (KTY added)

Coulton was sent to Stalag Luft III. His AC was a Spitfire Mk IXB. Four known victories were RAF bombers. on 4 February, 1943, he may have downed the B-17 "El Lobo" of the 305BG, flown by Lt Cornelius A. Jenkins. 710 missions. 22 Day victories and 28 Night victories. He and R/O were injured when his Wk# 720018 hit the ground at the Leeuwarden Holland airfield on 24 November, 1943, cause unknown (DeSwart). His 1st victory, A Hawk-75A, 12 May, 1940. A Morane on 15 May, 1940, no location. Two Spitfires at Dunkirk on 29 May, 1940. A Morane near Dieppe on 7 June, 1940. A Spitfire and a Hurricane in the Portland area on 15 August, 1940. While serving in 4/JG-11, he opposed the 306th BG over Wilhelmshaven on 21 May, 1943, and scored his 5th victim, a B-17. 4 bombers known; 3 B-17, 1 B-24. He flew the first jet recon mission over Normandy in an Ar 234B on 2 August, 1944. While on a Recon mission on 19 December, 1944, he was chased by a P-51 of the 352 FG, piloted by Capt. Donald S. Bryan. Sommer was able to escape by diving and landed at Biblis. Despite his orders to destroy his "T9 +EH" at Campoformido on 20 April, 1945, it did not happen, and his Ar 234 fell into Allied hands.

KilledInAction (KIA) 7 December, 1944 NW of Münster-Handorf by an RAF Long Range Night Fighter flown by Flt Lt Hedgecoe. Another source suggests the G-4 Werk # as 740078. Augenstein and his R/O, Uffz Günther Steins were killed, and the gunner, Uffz Kurt Schmidt, managed to bale out successfully. WIA 16 June, 1944 during aerial combat at Roubaix Be., with Uffz's Schmidt and Steins, also this incident. One known victory, a Wellington 1 km southeast of Ahlhorn on 1 August, 1942. He bailed between Hasselünne and Flechum, but was too low for his chute to deploy. WIFA 9 December, 1942 when his A-4 developed engine trouble and he was severely injured in a crash 5 km N of Watten. He joined II/JG-26 in 1942 as an Uffz. 260 missions.His 1st known Soviet victory, a LaGG-5 on 14 May, 1943. He flew combat missions after being blinded in one eye in a ground accident in October 1944, during which he shot down 23 AC. 5 bombers including the B-24 "My Assam Dragon", flown by 1/Lt David R. Talbott, of the 44BG, north of Gevelsburg, 15 March, 1944. Downed a B-17 of 95BG, his 8th victory, on 29 January, 1944 2 km north of Lutrebois in 8/JG-26. His 10th, a B-24 S of Bochum on 15 March, 1944. His 15th, a P-47 20 km SE of Caen on 8 June, 1944, plus two other victories this date. His 20th, a B-24 (HSS) at Rozay-en-Brie/Paris on 6/2244. A C-47 and a P-47 in the Arnhem area on 9/21/44. His 41st, a P-47 near Mönchen- Gladbach on 2/28/45. His last, a Tempest SW of Münster on 26 March, 1945, the day he died.

His first known victory, a Blenheim NW of Stavanger on 9 July, 1940, a Gefr at the time. Nos 2 & 3, both Blenheims in the Aalborg area on 13 August, 1940. He was injured slightly and his E-3 suffered 60% damage on 26 September, 1940 during a force landing accident at Fornebu Norway due to engine fire (Source: SIG Norway). His 4th, a Blenheim N of Brest on 21 December, 1940. His 5th, a Blenheim at Brest on 4 January, 1941. Nos. 9,10 and 11 were a Hurricane and two Blwnheims at Malemes on 25 May, 1941. His 15th victory was a Soviet MiG-3 fighter of the 55th Fighter Aviation Regt., shot down 26 July, 1941 during Operation Barbarossa. Shot down with wounds 11 October, 1941 shortly after his 33rd victory. Shot down and MIA 25 June, 1941 by AA fire in this E-4, but returned shortly thereafter. KilledInAction (KIA) 11 April, 1943 during aerial combat with a Spitfire 2 km south of Sedjoumi. Baumgartner damaged his E-4 on 5 January, 1941, on a takeoff from Dinan France (D.Dahiot). Briefly a POW on 15 October, 1941 when making an emergency landing 45 km south of Ischum. Added: His wingman this day was Uffz Franz Schmidt, who downed a Soviet Pe-2 bomber (C.Sundin). He escaped and returned on 29 October. The AC was apparently recovered, as it was reported 25% damaged in combat on 3 November. His first victory, a Hurricane I northeast of Malemes, into the sea, on 14 May, 1941. One known Soviet victory in 9 Staffel was a Russian MiG-3 piloted by Lt Stepan Komlev, who successfully bailed out. A triple Soviet victory on 5 February, 1942; Two SB-2s and a MiG-3. A DB-3 on 16 March, 1942. A MiG-3 on 10 May, 1942. A Soviet triple on 11 May, 1942; two I-61s and a Pe-2. An Il-2 on 13 May, 1942. Two LaGG-3s on 16 May, 1942. His 24th victory, an unnamed Soviet AC on 7 June, 1942. His 26th was a Soviet AC on 2 July, 1942. His 27th, a Pe-2 on 10 July, 1942. A Yak-1 on 4 October, 1942. One known Desert victory, a Kittyhawk on 10 March, 1943. Another, an Aircobra on 13 March, 1943. In the Italian theater, a known victory, a P-40 over southern Italy, 28 August, 1943. His 26th victory, a 99th BG B-17, "Bumb's Rush", piloted by Lt Otis S. Lee, at Pavone del Mella, east of Cremona Italy, 6 October, 1943 per Jason McHenry, grandson of crewman, S/Sgt Harry Cunningham. His 27th, a B-17 25 km south of Insel Garglio Italy, 14 October, 1943. His 28th, a B-17 over Romania on 15 April, 1944. Two B-24s 10 km S of Bucharest on 21 April, 1944. A B-17 on 24 April, 1944. His 30th, a P-38 S of Titü, in the Balkans, on 10 June, 1944 OKL numbering must be incorrect here). His 31st & 32nd, both B-24s in the Buschuk Bulgaria area on 11 June, 1944. His 33rd, a B-24 (HSS) at Liegeplatz: Mizil-Rum on 22 July, 1944. His 34th, a B-24 over the Balkans on 28 July, 1944. Alternate spelling: Schmidt (OKL B-24 victories 21 April, 1944).

POW 1 January, 1945, Operation Bodenplatte in 4/JG-2. Shot down by AA fire at Stolberg on the way back to Merzhausen. Too low to bail out, he managed to belly land and had just gotten out when the plane burst into flame. He had been shot down once before in Russia Added: On 09/07/43 when his engine was hit by Soviet Flak and the plane began to burn. He bailed and landed between the front lines until German soldiers rescued him. A subsequent hospital stay put him out of action until 11/44 (CKönig). Flew as Erich Hartmanns wingman while in 7/JG-52. At different times, wingman for Oblt. O. Decker (07-08/42), H. Graf, Zwernemann (09-10/42), G.Rall, Wachiowiak and Hrdlicka. Over 200 operational flights, 70 combat. Injured 27 August, 1942 when his G-2 ran out of fuel and he belly landed near Stalingrad. Lost his G-4 Werk # 19496 to flak NE of Belgorod. Bailed safely, but spent many months in hospital before posting to JG-2. His first known Soviet victory, an Il-2 on 6 August, 1942. A Yak-1 on 23 August, 1942. Two LaGG-3s on 8 September, 1942. An Il-2 on 13 September, 1942. A Yak-1 on 25 September, 1942. An I-16 Rata on 12 October, 1942. A LaGG-3 on 31 October, 1942. Two LaGG-3s on 1 November, 1942. A LaGG on 26 March, 1943. A LaGG on 15 April, 1943. A P-39 on 16 April, 1943. A LaGG on 21 April, 1943. A LaGG-3 on 27 April, 1943. Added: Due to an unauthorized bad weather flight he was arrested for 14 days and lost his status as Rottenführer (leader of 2 aircraft) in 1942. KilledInAction (KIA) 24 July, 1942 during Operation Barbarossa in aerial combat with a MiG-3 of the 55th Fighter Aviation Regt. in the Beltsy sector. WIA 26 September, 1941 after combat, crashing at Tschaplinka. His first known victory, two Blenheims in the Aalborg area on 13 August, 1940. He is known to have his E-4 destroyed on 13 September, 1940, on the runway at Vaernes Norway airfield, pilot OK (Source: SIG Norway). His first Soviet known Soviet victory, two LaGG-3s and an Il-2, reported on 13 May, 1942. His 29th, an I-16 Rata on 5 July, 1942. With 31 victories, its strange that his first was on May 13, 1942,; no earlier victories found. Of course, there could be two Erich Friedrichs in JG-77!

In March, 1945, Jung scored 7 victories in 20 minutes and an 8th shortly thereafter. His crew was R/O Uffz Walter Heidenreich and Mech Ofw Hans (Heinz) Reinnagel. They flew in "R4+AN" Werk # 620045. Their last mission was 16 March, 1945, and on 25 March, 1945, Werk # 620045 was blown up as U.S. gliders were landing on their airfield at Zellhausen. One known victory, a Lancaster at Ober-Sayn on 24 December, 1943. Another, a Lancaster at Epinal on 28 April, 1944. A Lancaster in the Brussels area on 28 May, 1944. Two "4 mots" in the Dieppe-Abbeville area on 25 June, 1944. Two "4 mots" over northern France, in the Bourges area, on 5 July, 1944. A 3rd "4 mot", same day, N or Paris. Two "4 mots" at St Leu on 8 July, 1944. An 11th, a "4 mot" SE of Orleans on 25 July, 1944. A 12th, a P-38 in the Blechhammer area on 7 August, 1944. Magnus, 30 victories.
