SE of El Alamein. Over 400 missions. All victories in the Desert, many multiples. One known victory, a P-40 in the Tmimi area on 14 December, 1941. He was shot down on 27 February, 1942 in Werk# 8497, and captured by members of the Polish brigade, who beat him. During the night he managed to escape, walking 50 miles before finding a German outpost. His 10th victory was a P-40 north of Ft. Acroma N. Africa on 29 May, 1942. Bowers/Lednicer, 59 victories. Added: his first victory was a Hurricane over Sollum on 15/06/41. On he shot down 3 Maryland bombers within 10 minutes of each other on 20/11/41 (his 2.-4th victory). RK awarded for 47 victories. His second, a Boston III southeast of Bir Hacheim. Another, a Mosquito 45 km north of Bayeux on 9 March, 1943. His 30th, a Spitfire northwest of Cayeux on 17 April, 1943. Force landed 7 September, 1942 after aerial combat with a Spitfire of RAF No. 601 Sq., 25 miles SE of Alamein (added: Lt Stahlschmidt was a part of the Schwarm when he got MIA on this mission CK).
