There is a rogue group of copyright infringers who have stolen a much earlier version of my data - from at least 10 years ago - and have the affrontery to publish that, along with using my name, on their poorly researched website. KilledInAction (KIA) 23 December, 1944 in his G-10, "Yellow 13" over Bonn, shortly after his last victory, a P-47 on Rolf Brands tail, on this same date. It is thought that Col. David Schilling C.O. of the 56FG was the victor on this date. His body was found on 26 Jan., 1968 near Villip (Bad Godesberg), the parachute intact, in the AC! 500 missions, 42 victories in the West, 2 heavy bombers. His 1st, a Spitfire near Gravelines on 19 August, 1941. Among his known Soviet victories, two I-61s N of Murmansk on 29 July, 1942. A Soviet triple, all Hurricanes, on 10 August, 1942. Four Hurricanes and an I-61 near Murmansk on 22 September, 1942. Another Soviet triple, a P-39 and two P-40s on 23 March, 1943. He scored a triple victory (3 British fighters, Nos. 75, 76 & 77) on 23 April, 1944 SW of Cilli, in the Balkans. His 80th, a P-51 N of Waldkraiburg on 24 April, 1944. Victories 90 & 91, both P-47s in the Dives-sur-Mer area on 16 June, 1944. His 92nd & 93rd, a Spitfire and a P-51 NW of Caen on 22 June, 1944. His 95th, a P-51 SW of Flers on 24 June, 1944. A P-51 NW of Achmer on 8 December, 1944. He was nominated for the EL.
His aircraft and his remains were found near Bad Godesberg 26 Jan 1968 (Youngs)

KilledInAction (KIA) 24 April, 1945 near Warnemünde in a fatal crash with an He 162. He attempted to eject at low altitude, but his head smashed into the defective canopy, as glass splinters were seen by witnesses, glimmering in the sunlight. He crashed into the marsh at the mouth of the Warne. On 1 January, 1945, he bailed out after engaging American fighters during Operation Bodenplatte, he OK. About 600 combat missions. His 1st western victory, a Blenheim Mk IV of No.82 Sq., S of Juist on 26 August, 1941. His first known Soviet victory, an I-61 on 20 January, 1942. Two LaGG-3s on 4 August, 1942. A LaGG-3 on 19 August, 1942. A Yak-1 and two Il-2s on 22 August, 1942. An Il-2 on 5 February, 1943. An Il-7 on 7 May, 1943. A P-39 on 2 June, 1943. Two Il-2, a Yak-1 and a LaGG-5 on 5 July, 1943. A Yak-1 and an Il-2 on 31 July, 1943. Two Il-2s on 4 October, 1943. A Yak-1 and four Il-2s on 2 November, 1943. Three P-39s on 10 March, 1944. 20+ victories in the West. He crashed into the Westrand Zuiderzee, along with both wingmen, on the return flight this day due to low cloud ceiling. Dutch researchers place the crashsite outheast of Vollenhove, at "De Oldenhof" (DeSwart). No known grave. 8 bombers. 8 victories in the West. His 1st, a Spitfire at Dungeness on 5 October, 1940. His first known Soviet victory, a SB-3 on 22 June, 1941. A double Soviet victory on 27 October, 1941; both LaGG-3s. Another double on 5 July, 1942; an Il-2 and an I-16 Rata. Five victories on 7 July, 1942,\; two LaGG-3s and three MiG-3s. Another 5 victories on 4 August, 1942; a MiG-3, a Pe-2 and three Il-2s. A Pe-2 and four MiG-3s on 7 November, 1942. Approximately 500 combat missions. His 91st, a B-17 off Hamstede on 5 November, 1943. His 92nd, a P-38 on 13 November, 1943. His 93rd victim, a B-24 "DN-4" # 42- 40749 "Sack-Time Sally" on 26 November, 1943. Klöpper is believed to be the pilot who downed Frank Murphys B-17F #42-30725 of 100BG, 350 BS on 10 October, 1943. His first known Soviet victory, an DB-3 on 30 November, 1941. A 2nd Soviet, a P-40 on 26 June, 1942. A 3rd, a Pe-2 on 3 August, 1942. A 4th, an Il-2 on 30 August, 1942. Because 4/JG-54 AC bore white numbers, I have identified Hein Bruhn in 4/JG-54 at the time of his death.

KilledInAction (KIA) the night of 21-22 January, 1944 in Ju 88C-6, when he was Kdr NJG-2; sd by a Mosquito of No.141 Sq., piloted by P/O Desmon B.Snape during a raid on Magdeburg, after downing five enemy AC himself. 150 missions against ground targets while in KG-1 & KG-51 in Russia. 29 night victories in Russia. One known victory, a Lancaster B, Mk 1, "R5632"; crashed into the North Sea, 19 mi. W of Den Haag, 24 July, 1942 (R.Snape). Three DB-3s and a Boston the night of 19-20 July, 1943. His first known Soviet night victory, two DB-3s on 17 April, 1943. A DB-3 on 23 April, 1943. Another Soviet, a B-25 SE of Schweindl (sic) on the night of 23-24 April, 1943. A Soviet DB-3 the night of 11-12 July, 1943. Seven Soviet victories on the night of 20-21 July, 1943. His 1st known western victory came on 9 May, 1942, four months after joining NJG-2. His stay in the west was brief, and he returned to Russia in May 1943 downing a DB-3 SE of Eydklau on 1 May, 1943. He was Kdr JG-100 in August, 1943. Numerous multiple victory nights including 5 AC on 21/22 January, 1944, the night he perished. His R/O in IV/NJG-5 (June 1943) was Herbert Kümmritz. In II/NJG-3 & NJG-2, it was Fw Friedrich Ostheimer ("Tame Boar" radar oper; survived) and Mech. Kurt Matzuleit, both safe the night of 21/22 January. Maj Sayn-Wittgenstein's body was found in a woods near Stendal. Buried at the German War Cemetery at Ysselsteyn, Holland, TH-1-2.

This may very well be the Uffz Asche who surrendered with Wettstein in Denmark, making the treacherous flight from Libau, across the Baltic, with two rear passengers.

On 19 July, 1942 he was forced to bail 20 km west of Murmaschi Russia from his Bf 109F-4 Werk # 10169 "Yellow 9" after his radiator was hit by fire from a Yak-1. He spent the next seven days walking back to the Staffel. His combat ended 16 July, 1943 after a serious third wound, to the face, shot down near Fiskerhalsen by Soviet fighters of YAK-1, and forced to bail into Petsamo Fjord. 248 missions, additional 19 victories unconfirmed. He was known to have flown Bf 109F-4 "Yellow 10" at Petsamo in June, 1942. Bowers/Lednicer, 70 victories. Deceased 6 April, 1984.

MIA 3 October, 1941 after being shot down in "Brown 5" by a Russian Il-2 near Shatalovo, possibly the victim of Lt Sergeyev of 233 IAP. At the time of his death, he was among the leading fighter pilots of JG-51. 258 missions. His first victory, a Spitfire in the Cranbrook area on 7 September, 1940. 55 victories on the Leningrad front, before his unit was returned to the Central combat zone 8 September, 1941. Often flew as wingman for Heinz Bär. Wounded 3 October, 1941 per his Flugbuch. A Reservist called up for active duty, his first and only western victory was a RAF Spitfire on 7 September, 1940, after his 147th combat mission. His first Soviet victory, a SB-2 on 23 June, 1941. He was the first non-com to receive the Oakleaves to the RK, and the first to receice it Posthumously. Bowers/Lednicer, 63 victories. Added: The VDK confirms his MIA status. Killed 25 November, 1943 in Wk# 470006 in a collision at La Couture with a P-38 (pilot Lt M.Aldecoa, KilledInAction (KIA)) of the 55th FG, his 57th victim. Both planes crashed near Bethune. His AC was seen diving away, and out of control. His body was found still strapped in the wreckage. Buried Bourdon France, Block 5/1/25 (A.Rosseels).439 missions. 32 Spitfires. 11 of his victories were scored on the Eastern Front during I/JG-26s brief assignment there. He had been withdrawn from combat as only surviving son, when brother Gerhard, also a pilot, was killed. He was serving as German Mission to Bulgaria. Later, his appeal to Galland reinstated him to combat duty as Kdr II/JG-26. His 1st victory, a Fokker XXI (or D-21) southeast of Rotterdam, 10 May, 1940. A 5th, a B-24 opposing the Misburg Raid on 26 November, 1944. Magnus. Added: On 24 August, 1944, while in 4/JG-302, attacking an American bomber formation, he was injured bailing from his stricken G-6, and landed at Kunzak, Cz.. He was the victim of a P-51 of 325FG/318FS, piloted by Capt Harry A. Parker. A Czech source suggests his date of death was 2 February, and that he died at Luckau, and is buried in a single grave at the Lübben Hauptfriedhof, Virchow Street (D.Drury).

Buried in the German War Cem at Lommel, Belgium, Block 59, Gr 513. Remaining crew (KilledInAction (KIA)): Oblt Wolfgang Fuchs, R/O, born 9/12/19 Munich and buried in the Ger War Cem. Lommel, Belgium, Blk 59, Gr 505 (Michael Foerster, Grandson 7/2021) and Ogefr Heinrich Prinz, Mech, born 1/24/25, also buried Lommel, Blk 59, Gr 514. All buried as "unknown" at the US Cem. at Fosse, near Bastogne until proper identification in the 90s (Rosseels). Two known victories, both "4 mots", one 30 km NW of Helgoland, the other 70 km NW of Helgoland, on 29 July, 1944. A 3rd, a "4 mot" SE of Kiel on 17 August, 1944. A 4th, a "4 mot" in the Königsberg area on 30 August, 1944.

His first victory, a Blenheim at Beauvais, north of Paris, 5 June, 1940, while in Stab I/JG-51. His 2nd, a Hawk-75 over the English Channel on 5 August, 1940. His 3rd, a Spitfire over England on 13 August, 1940. His 4th, a Hurricane on 15 August, 1940, no location. Seriously wounded during this encounter, he managed to return to base where he crash landed his Bf 109E, and was pulled from the burning wreckage. This kept him out of action for seven weeks. Channel pilot. Brüstellin replaced Hans Karl Mayer as Kdr I/JG-53 after Mayers death in October, 1940. Hans was Stfkpt of 3/JG-135 until named Kdr of I/JG-51 in October, 1939, replacing Ernst von Berg. He was Kdr JG-106 in September, 1944. Deceased 7 February, 1997. Alternate spelling: Brustellin.

EL(1/11/43). 1104 combat missions. His first known Soviet vivtory, a Pe-2 NE of Petrovskaya on 27 May, 1942. Four LaGG-3s on 7 October, 1942. A Yak-1 and two LaGG-3s on 30 October, 1942. A P-40, a Yak-1 and a LaGG-3 on 30 November, 1942. A LaGG-5 and two Yak-1s on 5 August, 1943. Four LaGG-5s on 23 August, 1943. A Yak-9, a P-39 and two Yak-1s on 29 December, 1943. Another of many multiple victories for this high scorer! Shot down with severe wounds 31 May, 1944, exhausted after his sixth mission of the day. Flying his G-6, Wk# 163195 "Black 5", he lost his concentration, and was jumped by a Soviet P-39. His last victory was on 5 Jan., 1945. Injured in another crash on 25 April, 1945, when his Me 262 was shot down by a P-51. He carried the name "Christl", his wifes name on nearly all his AC. Barkhorns wingman was Fahnrich Graf Keller. His crew chief from 40 to 45, Cpl. Albert Kusterer. Shot down 9 times. In 1955, he joined the West German Luft. and became a General. Deceased 11 January, 1983; auto accident 6 January,1983, wife Christl killed instantly 6 January. Post war home: Tegernsee.

He was able to bail, however his chute failed to open and his body was later recovered on Pitsea Marshes on 17 September, 1940, as inscribed on his tombstone; buried Cannorck Chase, Block 1, Gr 456 (M.Croft & Melvin Brownless). One known victory, his 1st, a Polish P-24 fighter downed north of Warsaw on 1 September, 1939. His 2nd, a Hurricane at Eastchurch on 31 August, 1940. His 3rd, a Hurricane at Folkestone on 4 September, 1940.
