One known victory, a Halifax into the sea on 2 March, 1943. A 2nd, a Lancaster on 5 March, 1943. Three victories on 5 May, 1943, opposing the RAF raid on Dortmund; a Stirling and two Halifax. A Lancaster on 13 May, 1943. A 7th and 8th, a Wellington and a Stirling on 13 May, 1943. Magnus. One known victory, his 1st, a Wellington 40 km southeast of Eastbourne on 27 June, 1941. His 2nd & 3rd victories were Wellingtons 20 km east of Humber Estuary on 14-15 August, 1941. Emergency landing in "R4 + EL near Naples, late 1941. Downed two Wellingtons in the Korba area on 15 April, 1943. His 6th victory, a B-17 SW of Minden on 30 January, 1944. A 7th, a "4 mot" NW of Nürnberg on 31 March, 1944. An 8th, a "4 mot" N of Compiegne on 13 June, 1944. A 9th, a "4 mot" at St Leu on 8 July, 1944. Victory count may be 13 (Magnus). WIA 2 October, 1942 in "Brown 3" when he collided with another Fw 190, Wk# 5644, while landing at Cambrai. His A-4 has been damaged by a Spitfire. His 1st victory, a Spitfire 15 km southwest of Boulogne on 9 March, 1942. While a Lt. in 10/JG-54, he downed a Spitfire 1 km west of Bray-sur-Somme on 13 May, 1943. A P-47 6 km north of Ath on 14 May, 1943. A Spitfire SW of Ostende on 24 June, 1943. A Spitfire at Berck-sur-Mer on 4 July, 1943. Magnus. A Spitfire SE of Roubaix on 4 September, 1943. Another, his 7th, a B-17 # 42-39868 of 94BG, 331BS on 11 November, 1943, flown by Lt Robert B. OHara. An 8th, a P-47 by Ghent on 1 December, 1943. Only 3 of the crew survived. WIA 15/16 February, 1945 when he crashed at Ziesar, west of Grevenbroich, near Burg after aerial combat (Boiten) (Added: by another German fighter in combat then emergency landing at Burg bei Magdeburg OR crashed near Treuenbrietzen due to radio failure and fuel starvation (CK). Forced to bail from his G-6 on 1 February, 1945 after being shot down by another German Night Fighter at Noithausen, Grevenbroich. Remaining crew (all bailed safely): Fw Hans Hahn, R/O and Ogefr Helmut Pareidt, Gunner. 54 combat missions. One known victory, a "4 mot" at St. Valery on 28 June, 1944. A "4 mot" at Ouarville, E of Chatres, on 5 July, 1944. A 2nd "4 mot", same day, SW of Chartres. A 4th, a "4 mot" at Montbard on 25 July, 1944. A 5th, a "4 mot" 4 km E of Chateuadun on 29 July, 1944. His 2nd, a Boston SW of Insel Goeree on 6 December, 1942. His 3rd, a Spitfire 60 km N of Walcheren on 22 January, 1943. His 4th, a B-17 northwest of Texel on 4 February, 1943. Two other known victories, his 5th and 6th were: a Spitfire on 4 April, 1943, and a B-17 on 5 April, 1943. A 7th, a Spitfire on 4 April, 1943. An 8th, a B-17 on 5 April, 1943. His "Black 9" A-4 was damaged in a "nose over" landing accident in August, 1942. He was uninjured when he crashed Wk# 7032 at Woensdrecht on 15 January, 1943, cause not given.

WIA 1 January, 1945 during aerial combat with American fighters during Operation Bodenplatte. He suffered minor injuries bailing out near Aachen, his disposition (POW?) unknown (Manrho/Putz publ.). One known victory, his 1st, a Boston III 30 km west of Helgoland on 1 August, 1942. His 2nd, a B-17 (HSS) north of Texel on 22 March, 1943. His 5th victory, a B-17 on 13 May, 1944 over Norway. His 6th, a B-17 on 19 May, 1944, no location (Perry Claims). A 7th, a Mosquito S of Hadsünd Denmark on 16 June, 1944. Another Mosquito at Skjern, Jutland on 25 June, 1944. May have achieved the rank of Lt. Magnus, 12 victories. Bowers/Lednicer, 21 victories. Alternate spelling: Spreckles.

Fighter Operational Clasp in Bronze
He flew his first mission on 15 August, 1944. Two of his victims were B-24s of the 445BG, shot down in seconds, 15 km S of Eschwege on 27 September, 1944. This same day, he escaped the guns of a P-51B of 376FS, 361FG, piloted by 2/Lt Robert Volkman after an extended dogfight. A 3rd known victory, earlier, a P-51 SW of Kassel on 11 September, 1944. Belly landed his "Red 19" on 27 November, 1944 after a wild dogfight with a P-51 over Halberstadt-Quedlingburg. He was wounded in this encounter. A 4th, a P-51 in the Kassel-Badhersfeld area on 24 December, 1944. His "Red 19" bore the motto "Kölle alaaf" (Cologne aloft). He was a good friend of Uffz Kurt Witte(KilledInAction (KIA)). He was known to have landed at the Holzkirchen airfield, which housed an Italian Ju 87 unit, and was caught in the middle of a strafing attack by four P-47s. Alternate spelling; Schroeder

A triple victory on 28 May, 1944; Lancaster SW of Frankfurt, a Lancaster at beacon FFi Goldammer, and a Halifax NW of the same beacon. Added: His R/O-Gnr, Uffz Hans Säuberlich, was also killed. Their ac was sd S of Lille, Nord, France. Both are buried in the Ger War Cem at Bourdon, France, Fw Schratter in 4/11/426, and Uffz Säuberlich in 4/11/427 (D.Drury). After his capture, he was persuaded to join with the Soviets, and he penned leaflets encouraging his comrades to surrender. While in 8 Staffel, on 30 June, 1941, he was shot down over Dünaburg S.U. in Werk# 12619 and carried as MIA, but returned shortly thereafter. On 7 July 1944, under leadership of Hauptmann Moritz, IV.(Sturm) Gruppe Jagdgeschwader 3 'Udet' and 2 Gruppen of Bf 109s from Jagdgeschwader 300 led by Major Walther Dahl, they distinguished themselves exceptionally by shooting down 28 (30 claimed - in fact 483rd BG, which was the unescorted formation subjected to the Sturm attack,apparently lost only 14 of its Fortresses – CK acc to Weal) four-engined bombers of the USAAF. (Youngs). Added: after this action he immediately was awarded the Knights Cross - the first Sturm pilot to receive one (CK)

While in the X Flgrkorps, on 11 September, 1940, he is known to have suffered engine trouble following an operation to Moray Firth, Scotland, in Wk# 3253. The ac was damaged in a subsequent landing accident (Oslo?), no report on crew disposition (Source: SIG Norway & D.Drury). On 22 December, 1942, he and his unnamed crew were injured when they crashed at the Cognac airfield after an engine fire (Ju 88 Loss List). At wars end, he served as Kdr KG-76 flying the Ar 234. 280 combat missions. Deceased 5 July, 1996, Herdecke. Added: Combined pilot and observer badge. Knights Cross awarded for sinking 83,680 GRT of enemy merchant shipping, damaging a British cruiser, shooting down a fighter and a flying boat, and bringing his crew back safely on a single engine after a successful raid on Moray Firth/NE Scotland (11/09/40). Two more victories, both Stirlings; one by Thynes, SSE of Namur, the 2nd by Givet-Pondrome, on 24 August, 1942. Also on 24 August, he downed a Wellington 4 km southeast of Rheine. His 4th, a Hudson 150 km southwest of Stavanger, 24 April, 1940. His 5th, a Hudson W of Stavanger on 30 May, 1940, making making Menge the first Norwegian area Ace. The wingman may have been Fw Horst Rippert. Injured in an accident in his F-8 on 16 August, 1944, by Avignon after being attacked during a reconnaissance mission at Draguignan, by a Spitfire of No.72 Sq.. He died 5 days later in a hospital after the 16 August attack. Lt Wilhelm Manz of JG-3, reported the incident. Heichele is buried in the German War Cem. at Dagneux, south of Lyon, Blk 19, Row 12, Gr 218 (Jager Blatt 4 & 6/2003 & D.Drury).

Remaining crew: Uffz Werner Evers, Observer (POW), Fw Georg Henneske, wireless operator (KilledInAction (KIA)) and Flg Robert Wakther, gunner (POW). The body of Georg Henneske (born 10/04/15 in Raisdorf, CK) was buried in Bridlington Cemetery on 19 August, 1940; it has since been re-interned in the German Military Cemetery at Cannock Chase.
