He took off from airfield Gahro heading for Insterburg on 12/08/44. A personal letter to Schmidts mother from a widow who lost her husband, Schmidts long time Radop OFw Golüke) hints at a emergency landing accident causing an explosion - he flew in very bad weather and probably with fuel shortage. There was another not registered aircraft in the air, but his Stafü H. J. Lindemann could not make out whether an enemy plane caused the crash or fuel shortage. Received the pilot badge on 05/04/40. 132 counted Frontflüge in 75 supply flight missions to and from orth Africa from 12/41 to 04/07/42 . He flew missions in Italy, Greece, Crete, North Africa, Med, Russia |
