His plane caught fire as a result of the enemy attack and went from 10.000m to 1.000m when the flames were extinguished. He tried to make an emergency landing behind a wooded mountain but 2 Salvos were shot him again, when a big part of the wing broke off and his 109 exploded in approx. 1000m height. The parents were first told he was MIA. His father made investigations are found the wooden cross and were told that Herberts remains were already buried 14 days earlier. Without his investigations they wouldnt have known the fate and burial site of their son (CKönig) | ||||

Uffz Weiss was directly killed by Flak. Falke: "Flying over such a bridge at 1000 meters was akin to an attempted suicide.""After recovering from his serious head injuries, Dietrich Falke returned to KG 30 and resumed operational flying.
