In 2014, the following was reported by Bjorn Rose & Peter Cornwell: A Bf 110C-4 of 5/ZG-76, piloted by an Oblt Gerhard Bremer, crashed and exploded on 15 August, 1940 alongside the Farley Rd. at Slackstead. Both the pilot and Radio Operator, Uffz Leo Pauli believed perished in the crash, and were buried initialy in the Hursley Churchyard on 20 August as "Unknown German Airman", and later interned together at Cannock Chase, Block 9, Row 4, Grave 19. Positive identity of the crew was not possible due to the severity of the crash. They may have been shot down by F/L R.A.Barton & P/O J.R.B.Meaker of No 249 Sq, and also claimed by F/L J.H.G. McArthur of No 609 Sq.. I suggest the reader use caution, but I do believe that this Gerhard is Erhard. | ||||
