NOTE ON DATES: IMPORTANT: For consistency, the Date is given as the date the mission TOOK OFF since the precise time of a loss is not always certain. Take Off date is unambigous and fixed in the official records, but obviously in those cases where the incident occurred before midnight UK time, then the Take Off Date will be the same as the Incident Date. Of course, most Bomber Command missions flew through midnight, therefore a Luftwaffe claim against a plane - or a locally generated crash report - may record the incident as occurring on the day following our Take Off Date. Bear this in mind when cross-referencing to our Luftwaffe Victories by Name/Date Database and other Luftwaffe sources. In some cases other sources may quote the date following our date, using locally generated reports as their source. To add to the potential for confusion, remember to take into account a Luftwaffe recorded date will be in local time, 1 hour ahead of UK time. When we discover a validated Incident Date we change our record if necessary.

Born on the 10th February 1922, died September 26, 200, age 85 Husband of Catherine Britain (née Wood - died 07th January 2014, age 92). Enlisted in Montreal on the 18th July 1941.

DFC Citation:

This captain has completed twenty-six heavy operational bombing attacks against the enemy. Flight Lieutenant Brittain is a Deputy Flight Commander and his work in general is outstanding. He sets his mind on the task in hand and with a fine offensive spirit, setting a magnificent example not only to his crew but but to the entire squadron.

Born on the 01st July 1923 in Evesham, Saskatchewan. Educated at Cotswold and Evesham schools. A truck driver for Smith Transport prior to service. Enlisted in London, Ontario, on the 28th October, 1942. Awarded air gunner badge on the 26th November 1943 and promoted to sergeant. On the 08th September 1944 he was awarded his commission.

Son of Leslie Ezra (died 25th April 1963, age 82) and Della May Ford (née Webb - died 09th January 1978, age 82), of Box 132, Evesham, Saskatchewan, Canada. On his 13th operational sortie. As a NCO: R/197306.

Son of Frederick Eugene and Mary Aileen Peak 9née Shaughnessy) of 2146 Gerrard Street., East Toronto, Ontario, Canada (parents married 26th October 1921). As a NCO: R/198018
