IFF = Identification Friend or Foe; radio system for identification of aircraft as friendly or hostile

KIA = Killed In Action

KIFA = Killed In Flying Accident; not during an operational flight

kl = klas, 1kl = eerste klas

KL = Koninklijke Landmacht = Royal Dutch Army

KLu = Koninklijke Luchtmacht = Royal Dutch Airforce

KM = Koninklijke Marine = Royal Dutch Navy

KMR = Koninklijke Marine Reserve = Royal Navy Reserve

KvV = Kruis van Verdienste

KMR = Koninklijke Marine Reserve = Royal Navy Reserve

MRS = Missing Research Service, the UK based organisation where all data about missing airmen was collected.

MR&ES = Missing Research and Enquiry Service (British), same as MRES, the extension of the MRS, operating globally in the formerly occupied territories

MRGS = Missing Research Grave Services, the MR&ES subsidiary service charged with sorting out identities of casualties and their proper burial

MSD = Marine Stoomvaart Dienst

MWO 4kl = Militaire Willems Orde der 4e klasse

N = Norway or North

NEI = Netherlands East Indies

NIMH = Nederlands Instituut voor Militaire Historie

NIOD = Nederlands Instituut voor Oorlogs Documentatie
