WIA 17 May, 1944 when, while on a training flight, he was attacked by American P-51s and made an emergency landing in a field southwest of Hjallerup Denmark. Remaining crew: Ogefr Hermann Asendorf, Obs, (WIA); Ogefr August Püster, R/O (WIA) and Ogefr Leopold Winkler, Gunner (KIA) and buried in the Frederikshavn Cemetery on 24 May, 1944.
