* NOTE ON DATES: IMPORTANT: For consistency, the Date is given as the date the mission TOOK OFF since the precise time of a loss is not always certain. Take Off date is unambigous and fixed in the official records, but obviously in those cases where the incident occurred before midnight UK time, then the Take Off Date will be the same as the Incident Date. Of course, most Bomber Command missions flew through midnight, therefore a Luftwaffe claim against a plane - or a locally generated crash report - may record the incident as occurring on the day following our Take Off Date. Bear this in mind when cross-referencing to our Luftwaffe Victories by Name/Date Database and other Luftwaffe sources. In some cases other sources may quote the date following our date, using locally generated reports as their source. To add to the potential for confusion, remember to take into account a Luftwaffe recorded date will be in local time, 1 hour ahead of UK time. When we discover a validated Incident Date we change our record if necessary

Born on the 13th June 1920 at Auckland. Worked as a clerk/law student for Guardian Trust and Executers Company prior to service. After serving with the New Zealand Territorials which he joined in October 1938 he enlisted in the RNZN on the 01st October 1941. Remustered as a pilot U/T and attached to the RN/FAA 14th May 1941. Embarked for England on the 19th May 1941 and arriving on the 04th July 1941. Based at HMS Daedalus at Lee-on-Solent. Embarked for training in Canada on the 17th November 1941. Pilots badge awarded and received his commission on the 27th March 1942. Embarked for England on the 25th May 1942. Attached to 785 squadron on a Torpedo Reconnaissance course on the 01st June 1942. Attached to 818 squadron flying the Swordfish on the carrier HMS Unicorn from 24th March - 12th October 1943. Joined 838 squadron after it had reformed on the 01st November 1943. Embarked on carrier HMS Nairana between17th December 1943 - 15th January 1944. Son of Warwick St. George Ruxton and Merthyr Tydvil Winfred Wilson (née Lewis), of 112 Remuera Rd, Auckland, New Zealand. One brother 22 year old, Fl/Sgt. Warwick St George Ruxton Wilson NZ/404438 RNZAF was killed on the 18th April 1942 whilst with 57 Squadron. His other brother 2nd. Lt. Keith Noel Ruxton Wilson 377379 New Zealand Artillery survived the war, passing away on the 10th June 2013, age 91. One sister, Elizabeth Ann Ruxton Wilson also served as a clerk in the WAAF. The other, Angela Mary Ruxton Wilson was still at school.

Born on the 27th February 1923 at Lower Hutt. A teacher with Wellington Education Board prior to service. Served in the territorial army. Enlisted on the 09th January 1943 as a meteorologist at Levin. Re-mustered as a pilot under training on the 23rd July 1943. Initial training with No. 2 Elementary Flying Training School commencing 18th September 1943 then to No. 2 Flying Training School joining on 15th November 1943.

Pilots badge awarded in January 1944 and promoted to sergeant on the 18th March 1944. Further training with 2 Operational Training Unit on 15th April 1944. Joined 21 squadron arriving in the Pacific on the 26th May 1944. Awarded his commission on the 01st June 1944.

Son of William Wilson and of Kathleen, Emma Wilson (née Hoare), of Levin, Wellington, New Zealand. A total of 408 flying hours logged.

It appears that the pilot may have been attempting to head for Sweden. However, the a/c plunged into a hillside about seven miles from Tirpitz at Borås, Skjekstadmark while heading in the direction of Sweden. The a/c was still loaded with mines and bombs and exploded violently on impact with the ground.
