Flt.Sgt. Bryant was killed instantly. Flt.Sgt. Sweetman was also hit and fell unconscious over the forward escape hatch. Flt.Sgt. Little was injured but provided a heading to Plt.Off Burgess, who was also injured, to the nearest emergency landing field in Allied hands. The a/c was seen by by Flt.Lt. Jolly fly ing AR:U (460 Sqn) leaving the target area. The crew tried unsuccessfully to jettison the remaining bombs and were then told to prepare to bail out. They were in position to bail out and when the a/c was down to 5000 ft Sgt. Grant bailed out. Although he thought he saw another of the crew bail out with a damaged parachute, only he had escaped. The a/c crashed and exploded at the tram depot Duisburg-Meiderich. The remains of the crew were initially buried in a bomb crater near the depot.
